A Modernist “Pope” and the Existence of Hell

“Those who repent obtain God’s forgiveness and go among the ranks of those who contemplate him, but those who do not repent and cannot be forgiven, disappear. There is no hell – there is the disappearance of sinful souls.” – Anti-Pope Francis quote in the Repubblica piece.

To such men Fr. Francis P. Harvey (1864 – 1945) wrote: “We wonder that men professing to be Christians can discard the belief in hell, when the doctrine is so manifest in the New Testament. Christ himself mentions it fifteen times … Plain as this is, unbelief is widespread. The parable refers to the strength of it. ‘If they hear not Moses and the Prophets, neither will hey believe if one rise again from the dead.’ The fact of the matter is that there are multitudes who do not wish to believe in an eternal hell, and who banish it from their minds as a pure man banishes a bad thought.”

As the saying goes: “If kings have prisons, God must have hell.” This is so true that the denial of hell cannot be seen as anything other than an attack on the  Justice of God, who rewards us all according our deeds. How can one believe in Heaven if he denies the existence of hell? Denying the very existence of God comes next, once we follow this tread of thought. This is simply a short path to Atheism( a brother to Modernism). Poor souls embracing this error often run far away from the life of virtue, since , according to them, the sinner at the end his earthly journey is not punished. Hate and sensuous pleasures becomes a great companion. Such a soul deserves great pity, for their hell has already begun on earth.

In truth, we should not be surprised hearing such words from a modernist, for while the atheist claims there is no God; the modernist – calling himself Christian – hold beliefs that, often indirectly, attacks the very doctrine of Christianity. He is ready to believe anything, so long as it is unorthodox.

The fastest way of going to hell, is to deny its existence.
