St. Francis of Assisi: “The devils will have an unusual power, the immaculate purity of our order, and of others, will be so much obscured that there will be very few Christians who will obey the true sovereign Pontiff with loyal hearts and perfect charity. At the time of this tribulation a man, not canonically elected, will be raised to the Pontificate, who, by his cunning, will endeavor to draw many into error and death. Some preachers will keep silent about the truth and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Jesus Christ will not send them a true pastor but a destroyer.” (Works of the Seraphic Father St. Francis of Assisi, Washbourne, 1882 , p. 248)

We were warned. The state of apostasy in the Church is as a result of the negligence and disobedience of Catholics both high and low. “If men could amend their lives”, She(Our Lady of La Salette) said amid tears. Craving for worldly praise, we often trample on the laws of God and uphold that of man; to appear well learned in the sight of men, we inordinately seek for knowledge especially the unnecessary knowledge. In such state of mind, how could we not embrace heresies which appeared as novelties in our time; for we often crave for that which is new and unusual at the expense of the old truths. The novelty of our time is modernism, and being trapped by its alluring sophistries we became too weak to defend the truth of our Catholic faith. Hence the words of our dear Pope St. Pius X: “All the strength of Satan’s reign is due to the easy-going weakness of Catholic. Oh! If I might ask the Divine Redeemer, ‘what are wounds in the midst of Thy hands?’ The answer would not be doubtful: ‘With these I was wounded by My friends who did nothing to defend Me, and who on every occasion, made themselves accomplices of My Adversary.”

In the parable of the wheat and the weed, the enemy sowed weeds when the servants were asleep; and like these servants, we, in that dreadful sleep of negligence became unaware of the enemy’s deadly move. Oh! how truthful were the words of Our Lord; “watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation.” For if we spent more time in prayer and in guarding of our souls against the temptations of the world – especially that of pride – we would never had been so weak like the servants, who never thought of guarding the wheat by fencing the field or  awaken by the perceptible noise of the intruder.

Realizing the dreadful consequences of negligence we now cry; “Surely, the enemy has done this!” . Today, we now see (false) “Popes” who approve other pagan religions in the name of ecumenism. True Catholics can’t repress a shudder see at the sight of different types of “masses'(sacrilege), such as the clown mass, the beach mass etc. What about the gay lobby, pedophile clergy ….must I go on.

When Melanie, who lived in great sorrow ever since the apparition, finally decided to pen down the secret of La Salette, J. S. Kennedy wrote the following: “When it came to the actual writing out of her secret, Melanie temporized, burst into tears … She sat down, took hold of a pen, and began to write. Once she looked up to ask the meaning of the word ‘Infallibe’ … A little later, she asked the spelling and meaning of Anti-Christ.” (Light on the Mountain Pg. 131). Today, Our Lord, like the owner of the field in the parable of the weed, says, “Let them both grow together until the harvest time, I will tell the reapers : gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into My barn.”
